Getting married in the Val-d'Oise

Wedding Photographer in the Val-d'Oise

Cyrille Magdeleine is a wedding photographer in the Val-d'Oise, north-west of Paris: Cergy, Pontoise, Argenteuil, Enghien-les-Bains, L'Isle-Adam, Auvers-sur-Oise, the Vexin français. Fine-art reportage in natural light, packages from €850 — the full grid is further down — with the journey billed per kilometre from Paris and stated on the quote.

The Val-d'Oise moves from town to countryside within a few kilometres. The east is urban and close to Roissy airport; the west is the Vexin français, a regional nature park of plateaus, stone villages and valleys. Between them, the Oise valley lines up places painters made famous.

The Vexin français

Regional nature park: plateaus, stone villages, reception farms and manors in the west of the department.

The Oise valley

Roissy to the east

The airport restricts the airspace over much of the east of the department: aerial views are checked venue by venue.

Where couples marry in the Val-d'Oise

Three areas stand out. The south, from Argenteuil to Enghien-les-Bains and Montmorency: the part closest to Paris, with Enghien lake and Montmorency forest as session settings. The centre, around Cergy and Pontoise, on the last loops of the Oise before it meets the Seine. And the west, the Vexin français, where most estates with space are found.

Couples living in Cergy, Argenteuil or Sarcelles marry at their own town hall, then often head to a reception venue in the Vexin or the Oise valley. The reportage covers both venues; the sequence is built into the service planning.

The guide to wedding estates in the Paris region helps compare venue styles and the questions to ask on a visit.

Auvers-sur-Oise, L'Isle-Adam, Royaumont, La Roche-Guyon

Auvers-sur-Oise is the village where Van Gogh painted his last canvases: lanes, church, fields on the plateau. For a couple session it is a setting of its own in the Paris region.

L'Isle-Adam, on the Oise, is photographed by the water: the river, the islands, the neighbouring forest. In Asnières-sur-Oise, Royaumont abbey is one of the region's great monastic ensembles. At the western tip, La Roche-Guyon and its château set against the cliff overlook a loop of the Seine.

Royaumont, La Roche-Guyon and the Château d'Écouen, home to the national Renaissance museum, are sites open to the public: a professional session there depends on the site's regulations and is arranged with its manager. A look at reportages is in the portfolio.

  • Auvers-sur-Oise — Van Gogh's village: lanes, church and plateau fields.

  • L'Isle-Adam — Banks of the Oise, islands and a neighbouring forest.

  • Royaumont and La Roche-Guyon — Abbey and château open to the public: a professional session is arranged with the manager.

Drones in the Val-d'Oise: checked venue by venue, rarely in the east

Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport extends partly over the east of the Val-d'Oise, Le Bourget airport borders it to the south-east, and their approaches restrict a wide area. The densely built south also rules out most flights.

The Vexin français is the area least constrained by housing: isolated estates with few buildings around. That is not enough to promise a flight: the department has several airfields, including Pontoise-Cormeilles, in the Vexin itself, and each venue is confirmed on the aeronautical chart. Never over the guests. Details are on the aerial wedding photography page for the Paris region.
