Dourdan keeps a medieval castle in the heart of town, with a forest at its gates. Milly-la-Forêt, with its old market hall, is the gateway to the Gâtinais. Between them, the valleys line up private estates that host weddings.

Orly airport occupies the north of the department, straddling the Val-de-Marne. Around it the airspace is restricted, and housing density rules out most flights anyway.

The rural south is different ground: an isolated estate, far from residential areas, has a better chance of meeting the regulatory conditions — subject to the airfields in the south of the department, around Étampes and La Ferté-Alais.
